OMG IT'S A SLUMBER PARTY MEME.


You are in a vast room, vast enough so that what happens over here won't necessarily disturb what's happening over there, with a couple of semi-screened areas for semi-privacy and all the pillows and blankets and soft (or bouncy) sleeping surfaces you could ever want. Refreshments and entertainments provided by your dear friends at End of Line and Alan's popcorn machine. A movie screen or two. Stuffed animals (what is that one with all the tentacles anyway?). Your choice of sleepwear. Whatever else you'd take with you to a slumber party. And you get to share all of this with everyone else on the Grid.

Clearly this will be the best night EVER.

Continuity is variable, and likely unique to each thread. What happens in-meme stays in-meme unless you want it to apply somewhere else, and falling asleep in the Rinzlerpile doesn't mean you can't also fall asleep in the Userpile somewhere else.

This meme is safe. Like, really safe. Highest level of physical harm that can happen in this area is shoving someone or getting whacked with a pillow; anyone who attempts harmful physical contact (including unwanted disc meddling, I'M LOOKIN' AT YOU, CLU~) is quantum-teleported out of reach before the harm can happen, ~as many times as it takes~ for the message to sink in, and everyone goes in fully aware of this. Viruses and glitches are contained in a hamster ball quantum sphere which suppresses their infectious capabilities; such spheres can merge with other spheres, and non-viruses can go in and out of them at will (and only perceive a mild static sensation if a virus tries to infect them).

Which makes this a good place to thread with folks your characters don't often get an IC chance to thread with.

He keeps staring, but this time it's directed at the Arjian. "Just hanging out. Nothing really caught my attention when I walked in, so I figured me and the pretzels could have a nice chat." Gibson pops a pretzel into his mouth, chewing a few times before squinting at Jalen. "What are you doing up there?"

Jalen still looks baffled, though it's tempered with amusement now. How very...Gibson. "I was mostly just trying to entertain myself. I've always been awful at social functions. Besides, it's kind of fun to watch...every...one....." He trails off, struck stupid by the sight of Abraxas (not me that is not me oh Users what even) rolling about the room, picking up objects (and programs) as he goes.

After a few seconds, Gibson leans forward and tugs on Jalen's cloak. "If you come'n sit down here, I can share my pretzels with you. And you'll still get to watch people." He settles back under the table again. "No promises if you stay up there, though."

Jalen wants to protest that sitting on the floor is an absurd idea, but at least maybe there he'll be out of his double's Abraxas' line of sight. "...well, alright, then." He awkwardly crouches down to sit next to Gibson.

His attempt to cram himself under the table turns out to be less than successful. He manages to get half of himself underneath it, but when he tries to fold his entirely-too-long legs under himself he smacks his head on the bottom edge, bringing his entire carefully-constructed tower of empty cups cascading down on top of the two of them.

He sighs. It could have been worse, he thinks. At least they weren't full.

"Whoa!" He puts up a hand as some of the cups bounce past his face, but all in all they're harmless. Once settled back down, he chuckles and pats Jalen's back. "Nice to see you down here."

A slight shuffle has him settling off to one side, leaving a few inches more space for the taller ISO to sit. With a small gesture he offers the bowl of pretzels. "I gotta say, it's pretty cozy down here."

"...I guess it is, at that," Jalen accedes, eyetwitching at a yelp from someone across the room as they get picked up by Abraxas' ball. "This is the strangest party I have ever been to."

After that he gets quiet for a while, resisting the urge to bang his head against the table on purpose this time. He's terrible at small talk. "So, er...how's...life?"

Gibson spends a few seconds considering his answer around a mouthful of pretzel. When he swallows, he replies, "Weird. But at least I have some experimenting to do with new lightcycle patches." With a little gesture, he added, "I saw they've gotten 'em off-Grid now, but only Users can build those patches. I want to change that."

Jalen grins. "If any Program, ISO or Basic, can work out how to do it, it'd be you. I've got a few prospective projects going on out there myself...new roads, junction nodes for a new Sailer line. Of course the last junction tower got eaten by gridbugs, but I've got all kinds of ideas for reinforcements to make structures out there more resistant..." He goes on for a bit, smiling. It's been way too long since he's had a chance to talk shop with anyone.

He snags a pretzel too, eyeing it curiously before cautiously popping it into his mouth. "...huh. Imferesing," he says with his mouth half full.

The Bostrumite chuckles at the sight of Jalen munching on a pretzel, then looks out at the world beyond their protective table. "Man, this is awesome. Think of the team-ups we can do now. Between the two of us, there wouldn't be a place on the Grid you couldn't get to, one way or another."

Jalen swallows, and his smile widens. "Absolutely. I don't understand why we haven't worked together more before. And I should pick through your databanks in regards to increasing the energy capacity on lightjets for longer survey flights." He munches another pretzel.

Maybe this party's not a total loss after all!

There aren't a lot of words for how excited Gibson is. Jalen's one of the few people who realize he's a lot more than a pretty face. "A lot of it is a matter of balance. The better the shape is, and the aerodynamics, the further it can go on the same amount of energy. If we increase the fuel tanks we have to adjust how it's balanced, optimize the design for that volume of energy. But too big, and it'll need more thrust to get off the ground anyways, and that'll be a higher energy demand. It's a great thing to look at."
