February Plot-With Me Post

Now that we know who’s around, what the event is, and what the game looks like for now, everybody get in here and plot!

Grid_lined plot-with-me posts will happen monthly from now on, and will replace the monthly plotplurk memes that folks have been using (since it’s difficult to find them again or keep track of so many different plurks). You can plot specifically for the storm event in that post or here, but this post is for February plots in general.

Dumont Storm Thread Plotting

Dumont has decided that the storm-of-the-century is the perfect time for him to port into the Grid. Lots of power to fuel the transition; he's a big program, after all!

If I can get my brain to cooperate and write this, Dumont will be appearing rather unobtrusively in the dark, defunct I/O tower in *coughcoughahem* sector. The one Kip rezzed into, and which Fire repaired. (mental note: look up where this wound up being.)

It's been decided that Ko will be the poor, hapless program to seek shelter from the storm and be the first to discover the Thing Lurking In The Dark. However, how will this occur? Plotting time!

One problem, though, is that I haven't determined where in his timeline Dumont is porting in from. These are the options I'm debating:

- He's porting in from the time Sark tries to prise him free of his tower, as Tron and Yori escape. Up until now, he's been too deprived of energy to be more than a statue on a plinth, hanging on to the last scraps of his defense protocols to be unmovable. The logic probe + summoning as much power as he could combines with the Portal storm, and drags him through. Dumont is thus on high-alert, expecting attack, and may snarl at intruders more than be friendly.

- He's porting in from after he has been taken hostage by the MCP, a fragile humanoid shell, too low on power to be at full strength. The decompiler the MCP uses to absorb the guardians' functions is hijacked, and human!dumont is pulled through. The storm and the Grid's power supply restore his power levels, and he is able to take his larger form, but he falls asleep to conserve his energy. Woken by the intruder, and is mid-way between guard-the-tower-against-Sark mode and suspicious-prowling-predator curious.

- He's porting in from a post-movie Encom, at full power once again, and thinks the tower is just dim and empty because of the storm, and the Users must be doing something big to the system to affect the weather like this. He dozes off, is woken by the intruder, and goes to greet them, inadvertently prowling out of the dark and scaring the pixels off of them, to his bemusement.

As far as when he arrives, I think that the excess of lighting on Day 1 of the storm will provide enough juice to port him in. And then, depending on when Ko is in the area to take shelter, he's discovered, having spent the interim resting/hibernating/shut down or trying to figure out wtf is going on, depending on the scenario picked - but he's not stupid enough to go outside in this weather, so answers would have to wait for someone to come to him.

Keeeeesssss can I suggest that maybe there's a little overthinking going on here.<3 Ko doesn't have to be the first program who shows up. She might be, but what's wrong with having the post go up and then she walks into the tower and we see what happens? :333

As to port-in timeline, I'm in favor of the first or second option, myself.

Eh, whoever shows up first, we say, Dumont will have been hibernating. He really wants to scare the bejeezus out of that first person. X3

But, since you showed such enthusiasm, I used Ko as the example/intended. Might change, if Dumont wants to scare two programs, hehehe. Like, if one person showed up on day 1, then got stuck in there with him, and day 3 or 4 someone else shows up and gets a surprise too.

Actually, if someone else wants to take shelter in the I/O tower besides Ko, we could mix scenario 1 or 2 with 3. first person gets snarly or suspicious Dumont, gets stuck, makes friends. Second person gets calmer, bemused kitty who wonders why you're screaming.
