March plot-with-me post!

Last month, the Free Grid’s shape and demographics were drastically changed by a severe storm. Some lost their homes, and some lost friends, but the storm also imported a patch of clean Sea (with some unexpected passengers) and put an end to death on the Grid. (Has... anybody actually tested this yet? Because this is a thing.)

This month, transportation across the Grid is stalling as a compatibility error makes most vehicles nonfunctional. Is your vehicle one of them? Are you frantically trying to get somewhere, or is this forcing you to slow down and smell the virtual roses for once? Are you interested in investigating the cause of the error, possibly via ancient Archive records or by exploring self-maintaining system utility facilities that have gone unvisited since before the Reintegration? Do you desperately need to get somewhere or else DISASTER? Are you part of a relief or rescue mission, or do you need one? Could you not care less about transportation because there are more important things going on in your life? Did you just rezz in and is this the worst system ever of all time?

Don't forget to use the Jobfair/Tasksets and Locations posts for ideas on what your character can do for others and they for you during this event.

Now get in here and plot! \o/

Were Spark and Ko going to go out and map the new geography? If so, does the transportation glitch for the March event extend out into the Outlands? Or will it only affect them once they're on their way back into the city to report?

[personal profile] electrifaction 2014-03-03 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
They should, yes! I have to decide where Ko's been staying (I think in the vicinity of Dumont's I/O Tower), but they should plan an outing. And yes, the transportation glitch extends all over the Grid, including the Outlands, so that would interfere with them starting out (if they hadn't started out already). It only lasts 4 days ICly, though, so even if they were stuck out there, it wouldn't be for very long.

I kept forgetting to ask about that: do you want to make a post for this activity, or should I?

You could do it. I was going to make an IC thread about rebuilding the housing areas, but I couldn't find anyone who has an architect character. Oh well.

Just running two main characters this month - Fox and the Waves bunch are still going to be lurking in NPC status working on the finishing touches unless there is someone who wants to thread with one or both members of the Siren pair.

Echo
Echo is still getting settled and grumping about being yanked backwards in time over by the Portal. The transportation shutdown won't bother her too much because if she doesn't feel like walking she can just hop on Fail's back. Perks of being partners with a giant dog, you see. As per their functions the pair will be available for transporting programs in need of medical treatment and possibly in cases of a program needing to really really get somewhere if they ask nicely enough. Just don't beg for a ride and then tell her that your really important appointment is meeting up with friends at the End of Line for a party, because you will be unceremoniously dumped on your backside and left in the middle of the street. :D Other than that she will be around for general CR building things like medical treatments or checkups or simple conversations.

Eden
Eden is pretty much still doing what she normally does in terms of being out and about and interacting with people. She's still kind of bummed about two of her friends leaving the system and a little unsteady because of the recent geographically upheaval during the storm, and may have acquired a pet Bit in the midst of said storm, but beyond that there hasn't been much change for her.

The Whales
Yup, these guys are also available for threads if anyone wants to poke them. I just won't be making an open post for them this month and since they can't exactly leave the inland Sea (unless they are Apollo in which case Apollo stay away from the beach UDI getting stranded once was enough) they will obviously only be able to interact with characters that come to them.

What if Hartley's urgent meeting is making sure that Echo gets to the End of Line for a party because why is Hartley the only one who believes in breaks? :D

Also Tron and Eden and Radia need to do a thing.
thingreenline: (Default)

[personal profile] thingreenline 2014-03-03 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
E-excuse you she knows how to take breaks! She just hasn't really had the time to do so since she got here, what with all the adjusting to antiquated things she hasn't seen or dealt with in a while she has had to do. D:

Ooh, maybe they could visit the whales?

Yes! And Tron also wants to drag Eden for ISOing lessons. He'll be double interested in that if he ever finds out about the Sea thing.

Well, Spark will be heading off into the Oulands to update her maps, so she's probably preparing to leave when the transportation glitch kicks in. If anyone wants to poke her for whatever reason, ask where she's going, offer to come with, etc., I'm up for it.

Research is well in Yori's line, but I'd like her to get out and explore at some point too. She'll take the sudden lack of flight a little personally. Lack of it will slow her down, but she's been practicing her city-running techniques.

She ought to be somewhat familiar with the oldest parts of the Grid and how Flynn originally set them up, which might help, though she won't be relying on her own memory if she can help it.

Therefore she's first looking at available sources, then searching for trouble spots. Help her get somewhere in either effort and she'll be glad of the assistance.

Hey think Yori and Tron should do some inadvisable testing to see if wing chutes still work? :D

Voluntary testing or involuntary? I was just wondering if the whole thing ought to hit while she's in the air.

But either way, yes. Yes they should.
probablebit: (sorta happy)

[personal profile] probablebit 2014-03-03 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Voluntary I'd hope.

Ram doesn't have much to contribute to solving the event, but he is very good at parkouring all over the city and knows all the shortest routes. He can carry messages if needed, and will share tips about transit routes with transport beams (dematerialize here, rematerialize there, like on the Lightcycle Grid in the old system; such things have been used in g_l before). He will also be frantically looking for a ride to work, because while the distance is walkable, it eats up a LOT of his day. Friends should expect a lot of helpful Comms messages from him, and in-person visits when he can travel properly again!

He's also a little worried this month because he hasn't heard from Roy (who is still back in the User world) since before the storm. This has happened before, but it's been an unusually long time.

Ko has been drifting around the city since the storm, not sure what to do with herself after a preliminary recce revealed most of the Outlands weather stations she used to take care of gone and all the maps useless. She's up for any sort of plotting (and really should meet more people). Her experience living under difficult circumstances may be useful for programs unsure how to deal with the supply shortages.

Wulf badly needs at least one ambulance-worthy vehicle for his clinic to make housecalls with. He'll be setting up medical stations at key points in the sectors he serves, so that programs have access to care without having to hike long distances; the rest of the Grid's clinics will be doing similar things. Lack of ability to transport equipment and supplies (they'll run out of energy-infusion patches quickly, for example) will make the care less comfortable, but he can still fix you up.

Allon miiiight have been out at the Sea (with company? :3) when the error hits, and would then be stuck out there; Argon District is close by, but it would take quite a while to get home. If they do decide to hike back, Allon will probably spend a lot of the rest of the time practicing dancing in the park (possibly with Siren?), unless someone needs a hand carrying something somewhere.

Eckert will be in a bind: having overdrawn on the club's energy allotment during the storm, he's not fully prepared to lose transport capabilities for this long. Energy at the club will be rationed, though there's still enough for everyone to have a reasonably good time. But he won't be inviting people to stay overnight.~ He'll be tooling the club's entertainments to the needs of exhausted programs wandering into the club after a long day slogging across the city on foot. He'll also be pulling all possible strings to get at least one energy delivery a day, though he understands that the few vehicles still operational on the Grid have many higher-priority uses.

Both Wulf and Eckert would have called on local mechanics to try to deal with their vehicle problems before the explanation starts going around, so there's that too.
probablebit: (well duh)

[personal profile] probablebit 2014-03-03 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Hartley would like to join Wulf in questionable vehicle testing! Also at some point the medics should probably haul Tron in for a checkup/meeting prior to any emergencies.

Siren would be interested in practicing with Allon, maybe to put on a dance thing later in the month?

[personal profile] runsinpacks 2014-03-03 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yesplz! Wulf could use someone to complain with about having a lovely fleet of medical tanks that don't work. XD Maybe they could be discussing Tron's case when the error takes hold.

By "prior to emergencies" do you mean before the vehicle error or before something else might happen to Tron?

And yay dancing! Yup, we can do that sooner or later, whatever works out.

[personal profile] probablebit 2014-03-03 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)

Echo would offer Fail for Wulf to ride if he needed to get somewhere, but alas Wulf may be too tall. But she may have one of the horse batons stashed in one of Fail's compartments, or a lightcycle baton or two, that she forgot about that he can use. For once her habit of only cleaning Fail's non-medical supply compartments out once a month or so can come in useful. XD

Tron will be grouchy but otherwise not too effected. He's too used to not having vehicle permissions unlocked to begrudge having to do a lot of walking/running. His activities will be a little curtailed because of transit, but he'd be available to run things across dangerous sectors if someone asked him nicely.

Other Tron will probably be sticking to the central areas because lack of transit, perhaps trying to sweet-talk certain obsessive inventors into working out the vehicle mods necessary to get transport running again and generally running PR so nobody shoots the navi. Otherwise, still available for down-time pursuits.

Hartley is not liking the lack of transport at all, particularly because of trying to solve that longer-term problem of getting other medics able to handle Tron's case. Cranky doesn't begin to describe it.
unknowing_user: (ahahaha you're not serious)

Why am I never in the correct journal when I see these things?

[personal profile] unknowing_user 2014-03-03 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[And also too lazy to log in and out because hah that involves effort]

Clu.exe states here and now he didn't do it, he wasn't even near the source code so he is in no way the reason compatibility went out of sync. Because it's not his fault if you guys are not keeping on top of your system updates.

But yeah, the Navi will likely be obsessively researching this for science reasons and finding out through trial and, more then likely with a boom, error to see why things won't work.

Clu1: Will be putting his hacking skills to good use, trying to get various vehicles working. Will probably start with tanks cause he knows their workings the best. Alternately, he can hack shortcuts, though that would take a good bit longer and he'd be more reluctant to do so. All in all, he'd probably be better served trying to hack vehicles and get them working, though obviously he can only do one at a time. Once he figures out what's causing the problem, things should go more quickly, though.

Cantus: Won't be doing much? He doesn't have a regular job to worry about getting to, so if no one wants him for anything, he'll probly just be staying home and/or hanging out with Alon and 0rca wherever they are.

Cline: Will be in a similar bind to Eckert, if not quite that bad. He lives directly above the shop, and several of his staff live within walking distance, so keeping the place running won't be a problem. Though he'll probably run out of some stuff at various points, especially if it was stuff that thee was a lot of call for during the storm (towels, blankets, energy candy, etc).

Gibbs: Will probably be in great demand, as he too can write shortcuts, much more efficiently than Clu can, because User. However, he may also put his kills to work getting stuck programs out of their various predicaments. For example, he may well be able to force an override to pull a solar sailer stuck over an Outlands chasm back to the station, if he can be gotten to the main controls at said station, or something (though he won't be sticking his hands in any live beams, because unlike some Users, he's not that crazy, and the situation is not that desperate).

Radia: This event could be a good opportunity to throw her at comms to help them out while they're more understaffed than usual due to programs not being able to make it there. But if anybody wants/needs her anywhere else for the event, let me know; I'm open to ideas. Otherwise, she'll probly be dividing her time between the New Sea and helping out where she can in the city.

[personal profile] 0rca 2014-03-05 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
For the event: I have a feeling 0rca is suddenly going to find himself in demand. His boat mod will likely be uneffected since he's Frankinstined the code beyond anything recognizable as a Grid vehicle code, especially . His lightcycle and jet however will as useless as the rest, not that he won't pop open the hood sorta speak and try to get them working again. XD

Non-event: Taking the thread idea I put up in Feb and hopefully will get it posted up this month. He's also generally around to be poked at.

Possibility for March: Provided I have time and enough background/development I may also be introducing a new OC, Ehren. I know the basics of his personality and function, but there's still all that fine tuning.

Since apparently I never posted in last month's plotting post
All my guys and where they usually are is listed in the check-in post.

For the gridlocked event - Gadget's hoverboard still works, and Muon's skates still work, they're both happy to be pressed into service making deliveries. Muon especially, since she's a messenger, relaying data is in her code.
Hollis' jet might also still work, as it's been heavily modified, and I'm amusing myself with it working intermittently - not falling out of the sky per se, but sometimes rezzing and working fine, and sometimes just not rezzing at all.

Other than that - hit me! I'm open to many many things.
